Corona crisis; which series to watch? Top 5 best HBO series

Many great, fun and interesting top-five lists have been released to fill the time we would usually fill with going out and visiting relatives. Enjoy watching!
Most of those who enjoy series know where to find the best quality. Usually, those series are Netflix originals, Amazon originals or series from American paid networks. These series often have a bigger budget and have the ability to take it a bit further than series you'll find on public networks. HBO is the founding father here. All know Game of Thrones, but HBO has other great series. That's why I've made a top-five that consists of the best HBO series that were made in the past several years.

5. True Blood

True Blood is a vampire series that isn't afraid to show sex or violence, which means it's a typical HBO production. It is based on the book series The Southern Vampire Mysteries, which was written by Charlaine Harris. Main character Sookie (Anna Paquin) falls in love with Bill (Stephen Moyer), who turns out to be a vampire. This causes quite a bit of trouble. True Blood had seven seasons, so it'll take you some to get through it all.

4. Big Little Lies

Take a couple of excellent actresses such as Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon and let them marvel in a story where the main theme is a murder investigation. Who died, and who did it? This is what'll keep you occupied for seven episodes, as you're enjoying the acting performances of these strong women. In season two, Meryl Streep joined the cast. The series won many awards, both for the story and the quality of the acting.

3. Band of Brothers

A ten-part miniseries about WW2, which was produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks back in 2001. The characters are based on true soldiers from the Easy Company, who fought in Europe during WW2. The beginning of each episode has brief interviews with the veterans. Band of Brothers is an impressive series that deservedly won an Emmy Award for best miniseries. The cast consists of Damian Lewis (Homeland), David Schwimmer (Friends) and Ron Livingston (A Million Little Things), amongst others.

2. Boardwalk Empire

An amazing series that takes place during the prohibition era of the Americas back in the 20s and 30s. It features Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. The creating, trading, drinking and owning of alcohol was strictly forbidden at the time. Nucky is a corrupt politician who is not willing to accept all this. Master-director Martin Scorsese directed the pilot. Boardwalk Empire had five seasons.

1. Westworld

Westworld is a beautifully sculpted and complex story. The series revolves around a theme park in western style. In the future, the rich and bored can let loose their lusts and horrible fantasies on so-called 'hosts', which are robots that cannot be distinguished from humans. Slowly, the robots develop a conscience and start to realise what is done to them. This leads to a bloody rebellion. Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright are amazing, and as a bonus, Anthony Hopkins is also part of the cast.

All series found above are great HBO series, but they've got a lot more to offer; The Sopranos, Chernobyl, The Wire, Rome, True Detective and Watchmen (2019), just to name a few. There must be something to your liking. Don't have access to HBO? Or have you seen all of this already? Don't worry. There will be more top-five lists coming soon.
