Hulu will not continue development of fantasy series A Court of Thorns and Roses

Hulu and 20th Television will not proceed with a television adaptation of the book series A Court of Thorns and Roses.
It was four years ago when it was announced that Ronald D. Moore would be teaming up with Sarah J. Maas for a television series of A Court of Thorns and Roses at 20th Television, where Moore had an umbrella deal.

Rumors that the adaptation might be dropped from Hulu first began circulating in early 2024, with speculation increasing after Moore left 20th TV only to return to Sony Pictures Television a few months later. It was said at the time that 20th TV and Hulu would attempt to continue the IP with another writer. Ultimately, they won't continue with the title.

A Court of Thorns and Roses would be Hulu's first fantasy series, a genre well represented on the family-friendly Disney streamer Disney+ with titles like Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Disney Channel's The Descendants franchise.

A loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast, A Court of Thorns and Roses blends epic romance, adventure, and political intrigue in a story about a female hunter who agrees to travel to a magical realm with a faerie lord in exchange for her family's safety, only to fall for him and ultimately fight for that love when an ancient curse threatens to destroy the faerie and human realms.

A Court of Thorns and Roses, published in 2015, was followed by A Court of Mist and Fury (2016), A Court of Wings and Ruin (2017), A Court of Frost and Starlight (2018) and most recently A Court of Silver Flames (2021).

Can someone tell me what the IP is in this sentence: "trying to continue the IP". IP is Internet Protocol for me as an IT-er, but I've seen it more often here lately. And then it probably means something else. But what?

I think “Intellectual Property”.

It does indeed mean Intellectual Property. In this case, A Court of Thorns and Roses is owned by 20th Television. So no other channel, television producer, streaming service or whatever can make a series/film of this title, or something that even resembles it, without permission from 20th Television. They may still look for another party, but most streamers have enough fantasy series I think.
