Although the Clueless project was announced in April 2025, development has now been halted. Alicia Silverstone was set to reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz and also serve as an executive producer.

Behind the scenes, an experienced team was involved: the script and production were in the hands of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known from Gossip Girl, along with Jordan Weiss. The original film's creator, Amy Heckerling, and producer Robert Lawrence were also involved as executive producers.
Although Peacock has dropped the project, this does not mean it's the definitive end. CBS Studios and Paramount reportedly remain enthusiastic about the concept and the franchise. It is expected that the series will be offered again to other parties, likely attracting interest given the ongoing popularity of the original material.
The original 1995 film, featuring Silverstone alongside Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd, became a cult classic. The story, loosely based on Jane Austen's novel Emma, follows the wealthy and popular teen Cher as she tries to navigate and influence her social life and that of others at her high school in California.
