Roseborough and Gleeson play the title characters in what distributor Fremantle describes as a "love story for eternity". The storyline adds: "When they first meet they are bound by a connection so powerful it seems nothing can break it, but will their path lead them to a place of happiness and togetherness? Or will it life and their own emotional complexity."
Riseborough is known in the television field for the series Waco from Paramount Network, Bloodline from Netflix and ZeroZeroZero from Sky Atlantic. She also starred in an episode of the Channel 4/Netflix anthology series Black Mirror. Gleeson was recently seen in HBO's The White House Plumbers and FX's The Patient on Hulu, and he also starred in Black Mirror.
Alice & Jack brings together major production companies in Academy Award-nominated Groundswell Productions, De Maio Entertainment, Me + You Productions and Fremantle. Fremantle also handles worldwide sales.
"The only work I've wanted to see and do since the pandemic is work about connection and love, and work with a sense of humor," Gleeson said ahead of the SAG strike. "Alice and Jack keep coming back to each other because they can't help it - they find something in each other that they don't have."
Riseborough said: "We unite in the desire to see the evidence of true love, and are also soothed to share with each other the pain of its inevitable imperfection."
Fremantle Global Drama CEO Christian Vesper added that the series is a "perfect combination" of "love and comedy".
Riseborough was at the center of a major controversy this year at the Academy Awards after she landed a stunning Best Actress nomination for the little-seen indie drama To Leslie. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ordered a review of her nomination following a campaign by her fellow actors. The Academy chose not to withdraw its nomination despite the backlash, instead ordering a review of campaign procedures.
Levin is the creator and author of Alice & Jack and Juho Kuosmanen, who co-wrote and directed Cannes Grand Prix co-winner Compartment 6, is co-director. Hong Khaou (Baptiste) directs the second part of the series.
