Judith Light cast opposite Billy Crystal in Apple TV+ limited series Before

Multiple Emmy and Tony winner Judith Light stars opposite Billy Crystal in Apple TV+'s Before. Crystal is also executive producer of the limited series from Paramount TV Studios, which has tapped Adam Bernstein (Breaking Bad, Californication) to direct the pilot episode.

Written by Sarah Thorp, Before is an atmospheric, character-driven ten-episode psychological thriller about Eli (Crystal), a child psychiatrist who, after recently losing his wife Lynn (Light), meets a confused boy who seems to have a ghostly connection with Eli's past.



Lynn (Light, pictured) is seductively enigmatic and the love of Eli's life, but her recent death may not be quite what it seems. As Eli digs deeper into the hidden life of the woman he thought he knew, he soon discovers that Lynn is haunting him from beyond the grave.

Thorp serves as showrunner and produces alongside Crystal, Eric Roth, Bernstein and Jet Wilkinson. Bernstein succeeds director Barry Levinson, who left earlier this year.

Light, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, can be seen in recurring roles on Max's Julia and Starz's Shining Vale. Her recent roles also include Peacock's Poker Face, for which she has an Emmy nomination for guest actress, Searchlight's The Menu as well as The Young Wife and Down Low for FilmNation, both of which premiered at SXSW, and Out of My Mind for Disney+.

Bernstein has directed the pilots for Fargo, 30 Rock, Scrubs and Alpha House. As a supervising producer, he was partly responsible for winning the Emmy for 30 Rock's Comedy Series in 2007. His recent directing credits include Apple TV+'s Silo and Showtime's Billions.
