Matthew Rhys cast opposite Claire Danes in Netflix's The Beast in Me

Emmy Award winner Matthew Rhys has joined the cast of the Netflix series The Beast in Me. The mysterious thriller project The Beast in Me was created, written and produced by Gabe Rotter. Rhys joins the previously announced Claire Danes, who in addition to being the lead actress will also be an executive producer.



In The Beast In Me, acclaimed writer Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has withdrawn from public life since the tragic death of her son and is no longer able to write. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is purchased by Nile Jarvis (Rhys, pictured), a famous and formidable real estate magnate who was once the prime suspect in his wife's disappearance.

Aggie is shocked and fascinated by this man and compulsive searches for the truth. She hunts his demons while fleeing her own in a cat-and-mouse game that could end fatally.

In addition to Rotter and Danes, the limited series is also produced by showrunner Howard Gordon through his Teakwood Lane Productions, director Antonio Campos, writer Daniel Pearle alongside Conan O'Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger for Conaco, Jodie Foster and Caroline Baron. 20th Television is the studio.

Rhys is a five-time Emmy Award nominee and received his first statuette in 2018 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as KGB agent Philip Jennings in FX's The Americans. He followed that role as the titular character of HBO's Perry Mason (2020), which earned him his most recent Emmy nomination in 2021 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

He will soon bring legendary comedian George Carlin to life in the Jason Reitman film Saturday Night. Rhys will also appear in the three-part BBC miniseries Towards Zero, based on a story by Agatha Christie.
