Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star as space police officers known as the Green Lanterns. Kelly Macdonald (pictured), known for her work in Boardwalk Empire and Line of Duty, has been added to the cast of HBO and DC Studios' high-profile superhero crime series Lanterns.
Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star in the crime drama from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen (2019), Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio is responsible for production and writing, with Mundy in charge of an eight-episode season.
Reportedly having a gritty True Detective vibe, Lanterns follows Hal Jordan (Chandler), a legend among the space police known as the Green Lanterns, as he reluctantly trains Stewart (Pierre), a younger Green Lantern. The two intergalactic agents become embroiled in a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the heartland of America.
Macdonald plays Sheriff Kerry, who according to the character description is a no-nonsense woman who is deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that has hardened her resolve, anchors her as the community's secrets begin to surface.
The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, who also produces.
Macdonald received an Emmy nomination for her work in Boardwalk Empire, the crime drama that aired on HBO from 2010 to 2014. In addition to Boardwalk, she has also appeared in BBC's Line of Duty, BBC/Netflix's Giri/Haji, the Scottish BBC miniseries The Victim and the Channel 4/Netflix anthology series Black Mirror.
