Ever since Suits L.A. was announced a year ago, following the revival of the original series on Netflix, there has been talk that original cast members would appear in the sequel. NBC executives have hinted at that possibility, with most of the Suits actors publicly saying they would do it if Aaron Korsh, creator of both the original series and its spinoff, called them.
Macht (pictured), who had not yet indicated whether he would return, has always been at the top of the wish lists to help launch the new series and his character fits well with the premise of Suits L.A.
Harvey Specter and Suits L.A. protagonist Ted Black (Stephen Amell) share the same background, both being former New York City prosecutors. In a short Instagram teaser video (which you can watch below), he referenced Harvey helping "an old friend in need."
Macht's role is a guest role and is not a precursor to a possible full-time role in Suits L.A. It is a big step to get him for the spin-off, because it is Macht's first return to the screen since Suits. After his nine-season role on the USA series ended in 2019, he took a break from acting when he moved to the United Kingdom with his family.
Together with the rest of the cast of Suits, Macht was back in the spotlight after the enormous success of the series on Netflix. He resurfaced earlier this year for the Suits cast reunion at the Golden Globes and did a T-Mobile commercial with Patrick J. Adams, playing their characters from Suits.
When we last saw Harvey Specter in the Suits series finale, he was leaving his career as a corporate lawyer and moving to Seattle with his wife Donna to join Mike Ross's (Adams) legal clinic.
Suits: L.A. centers on Ted Black (Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself by representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His company is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he has despised his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a group of characters who test their loyalty to Ted and each other, and they can't help but let their personal and professional lives intertwine. All this happens as the series slowly unravels the events that led to Ted leaving everything and everyone he loved years ago to start over.
In addition to Amell, the film stars Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt and Bryan Greenberg.
Macht shared his return on Instagram wearing Harvey's suit and shoes. "When an old friend is in need... it's time to settle things and make those 'things' right," he wrote alongside the short video to the Suits theme song:
