Ulrich Thomsen has been tapped for a recurring role in the HBO, WBTV and DC Studios series Lanterns as DC supervillain Sinestro. The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic agents who become embroiled in a dark, earthly mystery while investigating a murder in the heartland of America.
Sinestro is a former Green Lantern turned villain who is described as ruthless but undeniably charming. Sinestro's manipulative nature keeps him obsessed with his former apprentice Hal Jordan.
Sinestro was created by John Broome and Gil Kane and first appeared in the 1961 comic Green Lantern, Volume 2, #56.
The previously announced cast also includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry; Garret Dillahunt as modern-day cowboy William Macon; and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, a potential love interest for John.
Lanterns is written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes. Based on the DC comic Green Lantern.
Thomsen is known for his role as Kai Proctor in the series Banshee for Cinemax. The Danish actor recently starred in the critically acclaimed Scandinavian series Trom. Additionally, he has appeared in NBC's The Blacklist, the Starz drama Counterpart, and HBO's The Young Pope.
