Rhys Ifans will play a leading role in For All Mankind spin-off Star City

Rhys Ifans will lead the cast of the upcoming series Star City, a spin-off of Apple TV+'s space drama For All Mankind.
Created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D. Moore, Star City is another alternate retelling of the history of the space race - when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers who were part of the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to advance humanity.

Ifans (photo) is known for his role as Ser Otto Hightower in HBO's House of the Dragon. According to sources, Ifans is not leaving the series. However, it's unclear how his casting in Star City will affect his future with HOTD in the long term.

Ifans stars as 'Chief Designer', the driving force behind the Soviet space program.

Wolpert and Nedivi serve as showrunners and produce along with Moore and Davis of Tall Ship Productions along with Steve Oster and Andrew Chambliss. Like For All Mankind, which was recently renewed for a fifth season, Star City is produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.

Ifans recently completed filming The Scurry, a horror film with comedic undertones, co-starring Ella Purnell and Paapa Essiedu. His character is attacked by deadly rodents after visiting a cafe in the countryside. He is in production on season three of House of the Dragon and previously appeared in the second season of Sky One's Temple and Epix's Berlin Station.
