Three Actors Cast in Hulu's Prison Break Pilot

Three Actors Cast in Hulu's Prison Break Pilot

Elgin James' Prison Break pilot is on the way now that three actors have been cast as series regulars.
As we previously reported, James’ version of the series will be standalone and set in the same universe as Paul Scheuring’s original FOX series of the same name. This new project is not expected to involve the characters central to the original project, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). The spinoff project was first revealed to be in development in late 2023 and was picked up for a pilot in December.

Emily Browning, Lukas Gage (pictured) and Drake Rodger have been signed on to play series regulars in the spinoff.

While the plot of James’ version is still under wraps, the trio’s character descriptions provide some insight.

Browning will play Cassidy Collins, an ex-soldier turned prison guard who takes a job at one of America’s deadliest prisons.

Gage will play Jackson, a politician from a wealthy background in his first campaign for Congress.

Rodger will play Tommy, an inmate at one of America’s deadliest prisons who was locked up a decade ago.

The original Prison Break, which debuted in 2005, followed Michael Scofield (Miller), a young man determined to prove the innocence of his convicted brother Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) and save him from death row by devising an elaborate plan to escape from prison.

The series aired for four seasons on FOX, followed by a made-for-television movie titled The Final Break that aired 12 days after the season four finale in 2009 to wrap things up. A 2015 sequel to Prison Break starring Miller and Purcell, also on Fox, served as the fifth season. Prison Break was the most-streamed series in the U.S. in August 2024, according to Nielsen.

Browning (pictured) guest-starred on American Horror Stories and starred in Prime Video's Australian series Class of '07. Other roles include the Starz series American Gods, based on the book by Neil Gaiman, and Showtime's The Affair.

Gage is known for his role as Dillon in the first season of HBO's The White Lotus and Tyler in Euphoria. Other roles include Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives, FX's Fargo and Netflix's You.

Rodger is best known for his role as John Winchester on the CW Supernatural series The Winchesters. He recently wrapped the first season of Amazon’s coming-of-age drama Motorheads starring Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, and Michael Cimino, from John A. Norris and Cavalry Media, premiering later this year. He was most recently seen in Taylor Sheridon’s Paramount+ series Landman opposite Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm.
