Actor J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley) is set for a major recurring role in Lanterns. Nicholson joins lead actors Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre and series regular Kelly MacDonald in the HBO series based on the DC comic Green Lantern.
The series from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic agents who become entangled in a dark mystery on Earth while investigating a murder in the heart of America.
Nicholson (pictured) will play the younger version of John Senior. Nicholson played the series regular role of Lil' Murda on Starz's P-Valley. His other television roles include FX's Clipped and Netflix's Self Made: Inspired By The Life Of Madam C.J. Walker opposite Octavia Spencer; and Hulu's White Men Can't Jump, Just Mercy starring Michael B. Jordan, and Netflix's They Cloned Tyrone.
The eight-episode series Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy, who serves as showrunner, Lindelof and King are co-writing and producing. James Hawes is directing the first two episodes and is also an executive producer.
The cast also includes Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen and Jason Ritter.
