Matthew Lillard has gone from one successful series to another and is now in talks with the creators of the new Prime Video series Carrie. After landing roles in the second seasons of two hugely successful series — Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again and Amazon MGM's Cross — Matthew Lillard has entered talks to join the latter studio's series Carrie, based on Stephen King's iconic debut novel.
There's no word yet on what role Lillard (pictured) will play. The project reunites him with Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass), his director on another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, which won the coveted People's Choice Award at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival.
Lillard is the third actor to come on board, following relative newcomer Summer H. Howell, who plays the title role, and Siena Agudong, who plays Sue Snell. The series, which hails from writer, executive producer and showrunner Flanagan, who will also direct some episodes, renews the story of Carrie White, a shy, bullied teenage girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers while dealing with abuse at school and at home, all under the watchful eye of her fanatically religious mother.
The series follows four Carrie films, most notably Brian De Palma's 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek. The eight-episode series was put together quickly after Flanagan opened a writers' room in late fall and was officially greenlit in April. Trevor Macy will also serve as executive producer, with Amazon MGM Studios producing.
Lillard recently began production on Daredevil: Born Again season two. Lillard's other upcoming film projects include a return to the Scream franchise with Scream 7 and Blumhouse/Universal's sequel to the hit horror video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy's.
