Patrick Dempsey to star in new Fox series Memory of a Killer

Fox's just-announced drama series Memory of a Killer has found a lead actor.
Patrick Dempsey has signed on to star in the series, in which he plays a hitman who is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's just as his double life begins to collapse. The series is based on the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer, which won several awards.

The role marks a return to a network series for Dempsey (pictured), who starred on Grey’s Anatomy for more than a decade. He most recently starred in Paramount+’s Dexter: Original Sin and starred in the Italian series Diavoli (Devils) from 2020 to 2022, which aired on The CW in the United States.

Fox announced the order for Memory of a Killer when the network announced its 2025-2026 schedule. It will be a midseason series for the network.

Dempsey plays Angelo Ledda, who lives a double life as a “terrifying New York City hitman and a sleepy copy machine salesman and dad from Upstate Cooperstown,” according to the series description. After years of building and maintaining a brick wall between his two worlds, Angelo has effortlessly distinguished himself. But that is now changing – Alzheimer's is an enemy he cannot avoid, and he knows all too well how this will end, as his older brother has already died from the disease.

Angelo is exceptionally resourceful and talented, the best of the best. But he’s about to be tested like never before—and now every minute counts. This only gets harder when he discovers that his wife’s recent death may not have been an accident. So when someone comes after his daughter—who is pregnant—it’s clear that the wall between his lives has been breached.

Angelo must stop everyone coming for his family by scouring his previous jobs for clues, and the list is long. Now Angelo must track down his nemesis, while continuing to complete assignments without revealing his diagnosis and still getting home in time to cook dinner for his daughter.
