The former Star Trek: Discovery captain will star opposite Donnie Wahlberg in Boston Blue.Sonequa Martin-Green will star in the Blue Bloods spinoff opposite Donnie Wahlberg, who reprises his role as Danny Reagan from the long-running series that ended in December 2024.
Martin-Green (pictured) plays Lena Silver, a Boston police detective who becomes Danny’s partner when he moves to a new city. Like Danny, Lena is the eldest child in a prominent law enforcement family.
CBS gave Boston Blue a straight-to-series order in February, calling it a “universe extension” of Blue Bloods . While the series will be set in the same world as Blue Bloods , it will have a new creative team: Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis ( The Blacklist , Alert ) will serve as showrunners and executive producers, along with Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Wahlberg. (Bruckheimer’s company was not involved with the original series.)
Boston Blue is one of four first-year dramas on CBS’s 2025-2026 schedule, along with the FBI spinoff CIA, Fire Country’s spinoff Sheriff Country, and Y: Marshals, a Yellowstone (2018) spinoff starring Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton.
Martin-Green is best known for her television roles as Michael Burnham, the lead character on Star Trek: Discovery, and as Sasha Williams on The Walking Dead. She had her first recurring role as Courtney Wells on The Good Wife. She later had recurring roles as Tamara on Once Upon a Time and Rhonda on New Girl.
