Murphy’s latest anthology series will chronicle famous romances that have captured the attention of the world. John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy, who worked as a publicist for Calvin Klein, were considered American royalty in the 1990s.
But their celebrated love story and marriage began to fizzle under the constant attention of the tabloid press. The pressures of their careers and Kennedy family ties ended in tragic death in 1999 when John F. Kennedy Jr.’s private plane crashed into the ocean off the coast of Massachusetts.
Murphy also expanded the American Story universe with another new franchise, American Sports Story. The first season of this series, which reexamines a major event involving a sports figure through the prism of the present-day world and told from multiple perspectives, focused on former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.
