Manifest actor J.R. Ramirez Cast in Prime Video's It's Not Like That

J.R. Ramirez (Manifest) stars in It’s Not Like That, a drama about faith ordered by Prime Video.
It’s Not Like That is a new dramedy series in development from Amazon MGM Studios, created and written by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, who also serve as showrunners and executive producers. The series centers on Lori (Erinn Hayes), a recently divorced mother of two teenagers, and Malcolm (Scott Foley), a modern-day pastor who has recently lost his wife and is the father of three.

Lori and Malcolm used to be friends with their families and shared much, but now they are faced with the challenge of navigating their new lives as single parents. As they try to navigate their changed circumstances, a new, complex dynamic develops between the two. The big question is: is this a love story? The show plays with this idea, but keeps the viewer in suspense: “That’s not how it is. Or is it?”

Ramirez (pictured) plays Lori’s ex-husband David in a series regular role alongside Hayes and Foley. His presence adds an extra layer of tension to the story of relationships, co-parenting, and finding one’s own identity after divorce.

The actor is best known for his series regular role as Jared Vasquez on Manifest, which aired for three seasons on NBC and was picked up by Netflix for a fourth season. Before Manifest, Ramirez had a series regular role on the second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones (then on Netflix) and the first four seasons of Starz’s Power. He can currently be seen in a guest role on Netflix’s new medical drama Pulse.

With a mix of humor, emotion, and relatable challenges around parenthood, loss, and love, It’s Not Like That promises to be a warm, modern, and human series with strong leads and a powerful cast.
