The new Fox series Best Medicine has added Annie Potts (known from Young Sheldon) to the main cast. Best Medicine is a one-hour comedy series based on the popular British series Doc Martin. The series follows Martin Best (played by Josh Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his successful career in Boston to become a general practitioner in a picturesque East Coast fishing village where he spent his childhood summers.

Martin's blunt and sometimes downright rude communication doesn't sit well with the eccentric and needy villagers—especially Louisa Glasson (Abigail Spencer), a local schoolteacher. Yet, the villagers don't give up easily, and this close-knit community might just be what Martin needs.
Although he can solve any medical mystery, Martin truly wants only one thing: to be left alone. Instead, he finds himself increasingly embroiled in the villagers' personal dramas, feuds, and fantasies. What no one knows is that behind his aloofness lies a paralyzing new phobia and deep psychological problems that prevent him from truly connecting with others.
Annie Potts plays Martin's Aunt Joan: a strong, tough lobstercatcher who still goes out to sea every day and won't let anyone tell her to stop. Beneath her stern exterior lies a big heart. She loves the village and her headstrong cousin, and is loyal but also stubborn—someone you'd rather not disappoint. Joan also harbors a secret about why she and Martin lost touch.
Potts was a regular cast member on The Big Bang Theory spin-off comedy series Young Sheldon (CBS). She played Constance "Connie" Tucker, aka Sheldon's Meemaw (granny), for 139 episodes. Potts also appeared as teacher Louanne Johnson in the ABC drama Dangerous Minds, based on the film of the same name (starring Michelle Pfeiffer as the teacher). She was subsequently nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 1998 and 1999 for her role as Mary-Elizabeth "M.E." Sims in the Lifetime drama series Any Day Now.
