Boyd Holbrook Cast Opposite Omar Sy in Netflix's Extraction

Boyd Holbrook, known for Narcos, has been added to the cast of the new Netflix series Extraction, in which he plays opposite Omar Sy.
Extraction will be an eight-part, action-packed thriller series in which a mercenary (Omar Sy) undertakes a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Caught between warring factions and ruthless killers, he must make life-threatening choices while grappling with deep emotional wounds.

The series explores themes of trauma, betrayal, and moral conflict as characters are pushed to their limits. Holbrook (pictured) plays David Ibarra, the leader of the Extraction team, in a recurring role.

Extraction is set in the world of the action thriller franchise of the same name and is led by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Glen Mazzara, with Joe Russo and Anthony Russo (AGBO) serving as executive producers.

This is the second time Netflix has expanded a successful original film franchise into a television series. Previously, the popular trilogy To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was adapted into the hit series XO, Kitty, which has since been renewed for a third season. Conversely, Netflix is also developing a Peaky Blinders film based on the iconic television series.

The original 2020 Extraction film, directed by Sam Hargrave, was based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, illustrated by Fernando León González, and co-written by Joe and Anthony Russo.

Chris Hemsworth played an Australian black-ops mercenary tasked with rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord in Dhaka, Bangladesh. However, the mission went awry after a double betrayal.

The sequel, Extraction 2, was released in 2023, with Hemsworth returning as Rake. This time, he had to rescue the abused family of a Georgian gangster from a maximum-security prison.

Holbrook is known for his roles as DEA Agent Steve Murphy in Netflix's Narcos, The Corinthian in Netflix's The Sandman, and Clement Mansell in FX's Justified: City Primeval. He will soon be seen as Brodie in Apple TV+'s The Morning Show.
