Glenn Close is set to star in Channel 4 drama series Maud

Maud is a new Channel 4 drama based on the short story collections of Swedish writer Helene Tursten.
Glenn Close stars in Maud as Maud Oldcastle, an elderly woman with a dark past. After a lifetime of caring for her sister, Maud finally decides to claim a second life. But her quest for freedom is complicated by a suspicious detective and a world that seems to revolve solely around youth. To protect her independence, Maud proves willing to go to any lengths.

The screenplay was written by Nina Raine and Moses Raine (Donkey Heart), and the production is being handled by Playground, known for Wolf Hall. The series is based on the short story collections An Elderly Lady Is Up To No Good and An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed, both by Tursten.

Close, an eight-time Academy Award nominee, joins a string of big names who have recently worked for Channel 4, including Gillian Anderson (Trespasses) and Paapa Essiedu (Falling).

About her role, Close said: “I’m honored to be working with Channel 4, Sony, and Playground on this original series. Nina and Moses Raine are brilliant writers, and Maud Oldcastle is a unique character I’ve never played before.”

Maud was commissioned by Gwawr Lloyd (Acting Head of Drama) and Rebecca Holdsworth (Commissioning Editor, Drama) and is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Filming will take place later this year in London.
