Isaiah Mustafa and Ryan Eggold join cast of new Prime Video series Cross

Cross has added two more names to its regular cast. Isaiah Mustafa and Ryan Eggold are joining Aldis Hodge in the upcoming Prime Video series, which is based on the novels by James Patterson. Hodge will play Alex Cross, a “detective and forensic psychologist who’s uniquely capable of digging into the minds of killers and victims.”

In the past, there have been multiple movies that focused on Alex Cross, which is also based on a character from the James Patterson novels. Patterson wrote a total of 29 books about Cross. His first book, Along Came a Spider, was adapted into a movie starring Morgan Freeman back in 2001. Even though this was the first book in a long series, it wasn't the first serial adaptation. In 1997, Kiss the Girls was released, which is when the public first met Cross on the big screen. He was then also played by Freeman. In 2012, the movie Alex Cross was released, where the titular character was portrayed by Tyler Perry.

Now, it's up to Aldis Hodge in a television series to provide Cross with a proper portrayal. Hodge is known from the Showtime series City on a Hill, where he portrayed Decourcy Ward. Last October, Showtime canceled the series after three seasons. Hodge also portrayed Alec Hardison in the crime drama Leverage. A sequel to this series, Leverage: Redemption, was released in 2021. The second season of that series started airing this November. Here, Hodge also appears as Hardison but as a special guest actor.



The Hollywood Reporter revealed more about the roles Mustafa and Eggold will play in the Prime Video series:

" Isaiah Mustafa (photo) will play John Sampson, aka “Two-John” and “Man-Mountain.” Alex’s partner on the police force and best friend of 30 years, Sampson thinks Cross is at a crisis point and needs to seek professional help.

Ryan Eggold plays Ed Ramsey, a charming Midwesterner who also has sharp enough elbows to carve out a space in elite social and political circles in Washington and New York. Smooth, well connected, and devious, Ramsey can also be physically imposing when he needs to be — and he has some very dark secrets. Initially a fan of Cross’s, he soon becomes a formidable adversary.



Ryan Eggold (photo) portrays the lead character Dr. Max Goodwin in the medical drama New Amsterdam (2018). The final season of that series is currently airing, and it's finale will air in January. Eggold was also a regular in the reboot of 90210. There, he portrayed Ryan Matthews for three seasons.

Isaiah Mustafa previously played a role in the supernatural drama series Shadowhunters. Next to that, he has guest roles in shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Sirens.

Ben Watkins will be the showrunner of the drama. A premiere date for Cross will be revealed later.
