Bosch actor Titus Welliver cast in MGM+ crime series The Westies

Titus Welliver, known for his starring role as Detective Harry Bosch in the hit Amazon series Bosch, returns to the crime genre in MGM+'s upcoming drama series The Westies.
Set in the early 1980s, The Westies centers on the eponymous Irish-American mafia clan from Hell’s Kitchen, New York. As the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center on their home turf presents a huge financial opportunity, the Westies find themselves on a knife edge.

Despite being vastly outnumbered by the powerful Italian Mafia families (the infamous Five Families), they manage to maintain a delicate balance through brute force and cunning tactics—and claim a share of the profits. But tensions between the old guard and an impulsive younger generation threaten to jeopardize all that. At the same time, the FBI, which is infiltrating ever deeper into organized crime, is gaining attention.

Titus Welliver plays Glenn Keenan, a troubled NYPD officer who grew up among the Westies. He is torn between his duty as a police officer and his love for his deranged son—a conflict that tests his loyalty. J.K. Simmons plays Eamon Sweeney, the charismatic but ruthless leader of the Westies. The confrontations between Keenan and Sweeney promise strong drama, especially with two heavyweights in Welliver and Simmons, both known for previous leading roles.

The series is created by Chris Brancato (known for Narcos) and Michael Panes, with Brancato also serving as showrunner and executive producer.

Filming for the eight-part series will begin in Toronto in July. The Westies promises to be a gritty, character-driven crime epic that revolves not only around crime, but also around identity, family and the price of loyalty.

Titus Welliver recently starred in a planned spin-off of The Equalizer for CBS and in the independent film Ricky, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
