Series of the Year 2022 - Best series of 2022

Series of the Year 2022 - Best series of 2022

This column supports the Series of the Year election 2022 and focuses on the best series of this year. You can vote for your favorite series in this genre and others, between Monday, January 2, and Sunday 5 February.
The list below was created with the help of the poll, the writers, and the forum voters. I'm not sure I agree with all of the nominees, but your votes count the most. Last year's number one is back on the list and two brand-new series and two discontinued series are also included.

Will this year focus on dragons or do you prefer a little bit less fantasy and opt for a good crime or drama series instead? In February we will know if the dragons from Westeros, like the fight for the throne, have the favor of most of our voters

Below, in alphabetical order, are the top ten nominees for best series from 2022;

Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul
Better Call Saul received multiple nominations in various categories. Will the amazing Breaking Bad spin-off take an award home this year? In August 2022, the AMC series came to an end after six increasingly improving seasons. This series deserves to be on this list.

The Boys

The Boys
The best (anti)superhero series according to many, yet somehow this Prime Video series hasn't managed to win any of the categories over the past years. Maybe 2022 will finally be the year for The Boys to get what they deserve. Briefly put, this series is both as disgusting as it is brilliant.

The Handmaid's Tale

The Handmaid's Tale
Last year, this was the undisputed #1, but The Handmaid's Tale has some tough competition this year. The Hulu series will have one more season and then it's over. That does mean that this year isn't yet the last chance for this series to become the best of the MySeries Awards of the year. This series is currently #10 in the all-time MySeries top 100.

House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon
The nomination of House of the Dragon doesn't really come as a surprise to anyone. It's likely that the dragons will dominate the Awards this year. Even though there are multiple fantasy series that could definitely hold their own against this series. The fact that this HBO series is a prequel to Game of Thrones will definitely play an important role. Honestly, who doesn't like dragons?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
A series of Tolkien's epic, can the series rival Peter Jackson's film trilogy? The first season is clearly a bit of an experiment, but despite that, it is completely justified that the series is included in this list. But I think the big competitor HotD has a better chance of success this year, as the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has quite a few flaws.

Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders
No dragons, no fantasy, but a brilliant series about the Peaky Blinders gang in Birmingham during the time between the two World Wars. Unfortunately, Helen McCrory, Aunt Polly, passed away before the final season, but the loss and grief were beautifully portrayed and expressed in the very last season of this BBC One series. It certainly deserves a place in the top 5. This series is currently #8 in the all-time MySeries top 100.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things
I wasn't a big fan of the Netflix series Stranger Things after its first season, but the seasons kept getting better. The fourth season was even so popular that Kate Bush managed to get some money out of it. And Sadie Sink deserves a shout-out for her excellent and convincing acting performances. Will this series have a shot at ending up in the top 3 this year? Definitely. And otherwise, it still has one more final chance next year. This series is currently #48 in the all-time MySeries top 100.

The Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy
The Umbrella Academy can definitely be considered an outsider this year. But the votes do not lie, and a lot of people voted for this Netflix superhero series. Last year, this series won the 'Best Superhero' category. Who knows, maybe this year it'll become the best series.

Virgin River

Virgin River
The third Netflix series on this list is the drama series Virgin River. This romantic series was part of the 'best drama series' category in 2021. This is the first time this series has been nominated for the category 'best series'. Even though the third season wasn't received as well as the previous ones, it was still pleasant to watch. Thus, I think it is rightly so that this series has been nominated. But I'm not sure if this series will end up high in the top 10, especially considering all the fantasy violence of this year.

The Witcher

The Witcher
The fourth Netflix series is the fantasy series The Witcher. In December 2021, the second season aired and at the time, it was without a doubt the highest-scoring series in the December poll. Most votes went to The Witcher. Thus, I wouldn't be surprised if this series were to win this year. Because if you're able to acquire so much more votes in the polls than your competitors, it can be expected that you'll end up doing well in the Awards.

May the best series win. If we just look at the polls, it is pretty clear which series is going to win. However, all the nominees have got something going for them. They all have a loyal group of viewers and qualities that could make it the best. Will the voter prefer romance, dragons, upside down, umbrellas, crime, bad superheroes, or maybe the maid? If I were to guess, I know on which series I'd bet on. But maybe I'll be surprised, it happens.

These were all the ten nominees that have been chosen by you, the writers and myself. Want to choose a different series instead? You can always decide to use your wildcard. Good luck voting!

With kind Awards regards,

Mandy
