Series of the Year 2022 - Most Disappointing series

This column supports the Series of the Year election 2022 and focuses on the most disappointing series of the year. You can vote for your favorite actor and others, between Monday, January 2, and Sunday 5 February.
The range of series is so large every year that it is always difficult to choose the right ten nominees. Fortunately, the readers can partly determine which series they would nominate so that we can still present a nice and diverse list at MySeries.

In the case of the most disappointing series of almost the past year, I come to the conclusion that I have escaped some mishaps. Fortunately, I have only seen two of the ten nominees. One (FOMO) because I was going to discuss it and one (House of the Dragon) because I'm a big fan of George Martin's writings.

Below, in alphabetical order, are the top ten nominated most disappointing series from 2022;

A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches is based on the books by Deborah Harkness: Diana Bishop, historian and witch, gains access to the book 'Ashmole 782'. It contains special mysteries that she must solve. She is helped by the enigmatic and charismatic Matthew Clairmont. He turns out to be a vampire and Diana knows; witches shouldn't trust vampires. With season three, it was also time for the last book by Harkness and the series was also closed. Those who followed the series noticed in season two that A Discovery of Witches could not maintain the level of the first year. Season three appears to continue that downward trend so that this series became one of the nominees for the most disappointing series of 2022.

The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett
Boba Fett is a character from the Star Wars universe that got its own series. Since the arrival of Disney+, we have been overwhelmed with series from the Star Wars world. Good for die-hard fans who are tempted to subscribe to the streaming service anyway. Boba Fett may have his fans among the Star Wars adepts as a fringe figure. Once he himself is allowed to be the focus in The Book of Boba Fett, he turns out to be less interesting.

Five Live

Five Live
Strange but true, Linda de Mol can almost play herself in this Dutch-language comedy series and then she ends up in this list. For years she was one of the celebrities on the Dutch screen with fantastic series and shows. Apparently making a good series about something you've been doing all your life isn't really easy, judging by this Five Live nomination.

FOMO

FOMO
The horror series FOMO, preceded by the film of the same name, brings together a number of influencers in a reality series. There they are terrorized by a sadistic killer. Hollywood-style splatter horror reminiscent of the Saw film series and more likely to make you laugh than frighten.

House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon
I fully understand that this series ended up in this section. House of the Dragon comes from the world of Game of Thrones and should continue the success of the main series for HBO. The fact that this was only partly successful is mainly due to the book on which this series is based. Those who don't really know the history of the Targaryens from the book are confronted with a whole series of time jumps that make you wonder what happened in the meantime. The creators have chosen to follow the book, which means that you regularly lose track if you have not read the book.

Inventing Anna

Inventing Anna
Inventing Anna is a true story about Anna Delvey, a German/Russian Instagram influencer who had great success in New York society. However, Anna turns out to be a con artist. In this miniseries, a journalist investigates who Anna really is.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi
The second series from the Star Wars universe that ended up on this list. It, therefore, seems to me that the responsible streaming service wants to milk Star Wars in the shortest possible time. Even attracting the actors who played the eponymous roles in the recent Star Wars movie installments didn't prevent this solo story about Obi-Wan Kenobi from this dubious nomination.

Resident Evil (2022)

Resident Evil (2022)
It all started as a game in Japan. Resident Evil first captured the hearts of the gamers and then it was the turn of the movie buffs. Milla Jovovich became almost immortal with her role of Alice in six of the seven films in the apocalyptic world of Resident Evil where the T-virus wreaks havoc and slowly but surely wipes out humans and animals. New characters were created for Resident Evil (2022), but the fans clearly didn't were that enthusiastic, as witnessed by the cancelation of the series after barely one season. Clearly a well-deserved nomination for the most disappointing series of 2022.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. That becomes clear when you look at this list. Many series are derived from classics and this ninth nomination is also based on a classic from the world of literature and film. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an epic fantasy series set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Expectations for this series were high and no dollar was spared to bring this epic story to life. Apparently, that turns out not to be enough to save Rings of Power this nomination.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
Another universe that is being ruined is the world of Marvel heroes. Sometimes that works, but often the viewer gets cheap action that is predictable and has little to do. With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the creators try to view the whole thing from a different angle with less action and more humor, but that does not suit a real superhero, or in this case a superheroine. In any case, the creators will be looking slightly green when they hear about this nomination.

These were all ten nominees nominated by the readers, the writers, and myself. If you still want to choose a different series, you can always use your wildcard. Good luck voting!
