His acting skills are already seen at the Drama school in Arnhem, and although it is always difficult to build a career, Spitzenberger is a welcome guest - in leading, supporting and guest roles. He does this on the small and large screen and on the stage, as part of a number of theater companies.
In Niemand de Deur Uit! (Nobody is Leaving!), Spitzenberger makes his series debut. He plays an extra role, titled as the revealing 'Young man'. A few years later, years in which Spitzenberger focused on other projects, he suddenly turns up in Baantjer. The series where for many actors you must have played in it at least once - preferably as a victim of the case of the week.
Spitzenberger even plays a total of three episodes in the series about De Cock and Vledder. He then makes an appearance in the polar opposite of the procedural police series of that moment: Russen (Russians). Not long after, a guest role in Goede daden bij daglicht (Good Deeds at Daylight) follows.
Spitzenberger is building his career not only in series land, but also on the big screen. This is evident with roles in the films De Tweeling (The Twins), De Dominee (The Reverend) and Stille Nacht (Silent Night). In between he appears in the popular series Meiden van de Wit (Girls of the White).
It is 2008 when Spitzenberger has a permanent role in a series for the first time. That is Wouter's role in Lieve Lust (Lovely Lust). The series, including Angela Schijf and Birgit Schuurman, revolves around six people in their thirties in the city who all try to answer the same question: am I actually happy?
Guest roles in Spoorloos Verdwenen (Hopelessly Disappeared) and Keyzer en de Boer Advocaten (Keyzer and the Boer Lawyers) follow, after which Spitzenberger celebrates his greatest success in the cinema. He has an important role in the extremely popular romcom Alles is Liefde (Love is Everything). A role after which we can say that the name of Spitzenberger is definitively established.
He then shines as an inspector in Koning aan de Maas (King at the Maas (A Dutch river)). A short recurring role in Gooische Vrouwen (Viper's Nest) follows, while he also plays the leading role as a minister in the comedy Sorry Minister. Spitzenberger can also be seen briefly in Annie MG, about the famous writer, plays a little longer in the Bloedverwanten (Blood Relatives) series and occasionally makes an appearance in the satirical Toren C. (Tower C.).
We also see Spitzenberger intermittently in De vloer op (Man About the House), while he also appears in popular productions such as 't Schaep met de vijf poten (The Sheep with five paws), Rembrandt en Ik en Lijn 32 (Me and Line 32). A regular role in Divorce, about three men who temporarily move in together while they are trying to arrange a divorce, follows. The series lasts four seasons and is very popular in the Netherlands.
New success in the field of series follows with the catchy and innovative Vlucht HS13 (Flight HS13) and the series Suspects 2017. While Spitzenberger can also be seen at that time in De Spa (The Spa), Ransom, de Intocht van Sinterklaas (The Arrival of Sinterklaas) and Kerst met de Kuijpers (Christmas with the Kuijpers). Spitzenberger regularly lends himself to series and activities around the holidays. He has been a recurring guest in the Sinterklaas news for years - including as Rijmpiet.
There is more serious work through series such as Stanley H., Detective Van der Valk and Het jaar van Fortuyn (The Year of Fortuyn). Spitzenberger has really great success again with the series Oogappels (Apple of my Eye). Although the series starts with a small audience, it manages to touch more and more people with each episode. The everyday, recognizable themes are well received by the public, and that is clearly visible in the viewing figures per season.
We will not be rid of Spitzenberger in the coming period. He started 2023 with a performance in Make Up Your Mind. For this year, the film De Vuurlinie (The Firing Line) and the BNNVARA series Anoniem (Anonymous) are also on the roll. The latter revolves around history teacher Jurre - Spitzenberger - and public prosecutor Sarah (Anniek Pheifer, How my decent parents ended up in jail). They fight against the criminal world, each in their own way. And although they have been married for years, they keep their double lives hidden from each other. This is of course completely crazy. Sit down for it!
