Spotlight On: Aldis Hodge

Spotlight On: Aldis Hodge

Lights off, spotlight on! Time to see which series Aldis Hodge also has on his resume.
The American actor Aldis Hodge started his career with a vengeance. Then you may be thinking, what do they mean by that? Simple: the first credit Hodge received for a role was in the third Die Hard film. In 1995, almost 30 years ago.

Not much later, Hodge also played his first guest role on the small screen. He does this in the series Between Brothers, a comedy about two brothers with completely different characters that lasts two seasons. Not long after, Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction follows and we see him in small roles in the better-known series NYPD Blue, ER and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In Pacific Blue he plays a role in several episodes of a series for the first time, after which he makes a trip to the film Big Momma's House as an extra. Hodge is then an actor who is used as a guest actor in smaller roles in many series. Often enough for a credit, but not so that it stays with you in a series or film.

Hodge is working on a whole series of series at the beginning of the new millennium. What to think of Any Day Now, Judging Amy, City of Angels and The Proud Family. Or Becker, Boston Public, Cold Case, American Dreams and Charmed. For a versatile and available actor like Hodge, there is also a role in a procedural series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, although not as a leading role in an episode.

That first leading role came in 2005. Perhaps a disadvantage for Hodge is that he is not on screen, the animated series A.T.O.M.: Alpha Teens on Machines gratefully uses his voice for two seasons. During that period you can see Hodge again in popular series such as Half & Half, Numb3rs, Girlfriends and Bones.

In Friday Night Lights, a drama series about one of the best performing High School Football Teams and their coach, Hodge plays a longer role. He can be seen in six episodes as Ray 'Voodoo' Tatum in the first season. With roles in Supernatural and Standoff, Hodge is taking some steps in his career.

That career will really take off when he signs for Leverage. This thriller and crime series from channel TNT brings together a group of thieves and hackers who play Robin Hood. The series is a success and for five seasons the fictional rich are not sure of their money - absolutely not for hacker Alec Hardison, the character that Hodge portrays with great conviction.

In addition to Leverage, Hodge appears in numerous other series, in the form of guest roles in Castle, The Forgotten, Private Practice, Mad, The Chicago Code and CSI: Miami. When Leverage finally comes to an end, it is a moment for Hodge to slow down a bit. In 2014 he appeared once in The Walking Dead, Caper and Rectify, after which in 2015 he focused solely on the film Straight Outta Compton.

The only other project with Hodge during that period is the series Turn, where he has a recurring supporting role as Jordan. The series is a costume drama about a farmer on Long Island who gathers a group of childhood friends to help in the fight for an independent America.

Noah, set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, is the next project that Hodge is committed to for a longer period of time. He also appears briefly in The Blacklist, Black Mirror, Star Trek: Short Treks and Medal of Honor.

Major recent projects include City on a Hill, a political drama starring Hodge, and Leverage: Redemption - the well-received sequel to the original. Cross will be added soon. This crime series on Amazon - starring Hodge in the lead role of Alex Cross - tells the story of a brilliant man who would do anything for his family. After the murder of his wife, something inside him snapped, causing him to obsessively hunt down the killers. Make sure you're on the edge of your seat ready for it!
