Good Tunes: I Walk Beside You by Beth Rowley

Good Tunes: I Walk Beside You by Beth Rowley

Television series mainly focus on the eye, but what seems to be becoming increasingly important is the ear. The choice of music in the series can be described as very special to not special.
Okay, I admit it, my ear was on vacation for a while. But after the last episode of Strike I thought: "I can't ignore this song, this deserves a spot in the spotlight!" In I Walk Beside You, Beth Rowley sings about that unbreakable support between two people. And when you look at the dynamic between Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) and Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger) in the series, you know this is the perfect match. The lyrics are all about loyalty, partners in crime – the ultimate power duo. It sounds like they're building their own team, and trust me, that's exactly what's happening between these two.

Beth Rowley is a British singer-songwriter who you should know if you like soul, jazz and a bit of that old-school charm. Her debut album Little Dreamer entered the charts in 2008 and became a smash. She also worked briefly with Crowded House and Duke Special.

You and me
Me and you
Somehow we made it through

I may be gone
I may be far away
But I walk beside you
Every step of the way

When you're used
Bruised
Black and blued
Don't think about it
Never doubt it

I'll walk beside you

I Walk Beside You was made especially for the BBC series Strike, based on the books by J.K. Rowling (but as Robert Galbraith). The music is a collaboration between Adrian Johnston and Crispin Letts and was first played in the intro to The Cuckoo's Calling in 2017.

Small spoiler: you won't find it on the usual streaming platforms, but don't worry – it can be found on SoundCloud. Unfortunately, we don't have a live version of Beth Rowley singing the song, so we'll have to make do with the recording above.
