Spotlight On: Thomas Acda

Lights off, spotlight on! Time to see which series Thomas Acda also has on his resume.
Enschede, S.E. Fireworks, the year 2000. For many, the images of the Fireworks Disaster there are still vividly etched in their minds. Yet it has already been 25 years since this disaster occurred. The Evangelische Omroep brings this story to life, but focuses primarily on the disaster that followed, that of the impact and aftermath of a trauma that marked people for life on May 13. Thomas Acda returns to the small screen for this mini-series, as a detective looking for the answer to just one question: how could this happen?

We know Acda mainly as part of the duo he forms with Paul de Munnik. Recently back again – Morgen wordt Fantastische! However, he has his acting career without his singing counterpart. A career that starts in 1992 with a small role in the film Richting Engeland.

In good times and bad is his first role in a series. He takes on the supporting role of pub buddy Mario in 18 episodes of the comedy. After that – a must for every Dutch actor of that time – a guest role in Baantjer.

Acda's career in series really kicks off when the film All Stars sees the light of day. Shortly after, it is decided to continue in series form as All Stars - The Series. Acda plays Willem, goalkeeper of an amateur team from North Holland that has a lot of trouble being somewhat successful in the competition. Many footballers from the basement class can undoubtedly still recognize themselves in him. Although Acda does not have an absolute leading role, his character stays with you.

In addition to All Stars, Acda also plays in quite a few films during this period. What about Lek, In Oranje, Alles is liefde and De schipjongens van Bontekoe. A return to the small screen follows at the end of the noughties. He then takes on a role in the Dutch crime hit Penoza. At the same time, he appears in the long-running police series Flikken Maastricht, which then (only) starts its fourth season.

In those years, a sequel to the first All Stars film and series will also be released, with the film All Stars 2: Old Stars, after which the crime series Bureau Raampoort will be the next series project in which Acda will be involved as the lead actor.

It is 2014 when Acda starts doing something he really likes. In Jeuk, a satirical sketch show that he makes together with Peter Heerschop and Jelka van Houten, the fun bursts from the screen. Acda and Heerschop play themselves in all kinds of situations and know how to make them more uncomfortable than uncomfortable in a brilliant way. A true achievement that seamlessly links shamelessness to shame. The title may be clear, Jeuk is a series that – precisely – makes you itch.

KLEM is Acda's next series project. In the third season of the drama series, he will take on the permanent role of Wim Konings. At the same time, he will regularly return to football, with the revival of – this time – the series, now called All Stars & Zonen. Acda will also briefly work on series such as Welkom in de Middeleeuwen and the somewhat meager Detective Van der Valk.

At the end of 2024, Acda will make his first appearance in the Sinterklaasjournaal - then for the first time without presenter Dieuwertje Blok - but with singing companion Paul, with whom he also made a documentary: Acda en De Munnik: Woorden van een Ander.

Now, in De Vuurwerkramp, another serious role will follow. One that seems worthwhile in advance, if only because of the subject of this series. Always curious about what Thomas Acda will be doing next? Then De Vuurwerkramp will be an interesting new project from the beginning of May.
