Awards: Best comedy of 2016

Awards: Best comedy of 2016

May I start by saying how difficult this category is? Humour is highly subjective. How am I supposed to select ten of the best comedy series without upsetting most of you? I can't. What I can do is explain how I came to my decisions. I started with gathering all the comedy series of 2016 and gave them scores based on their rating, number of votes, popularity and number of fans on MySeries.tv, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritics. I also looked at which TV series got nominated for or won awards like the Emmys. The following ten comedy series were the result of my ingenious self- invented formula:

Silicon Valley
Orange Is The New Black
Modern Family
Ash vs Evil Dead
Shameless (US)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The Big Bang Theory
You're The Worst
New Girl
Transparent

Some comedy series are just inevitable. Orange is the New Black, Modern Family en The Big Bang Theory have been at the top of this category for many years. But sometimes you wonder whether they have passed their peaks. In general they still remain very popular.

As I was working on my ingenious formula, there was one comedy which always came out first place, no matter what I did: Silicon Valley. Personally I agree. Zach Woods, who plays the role of Jared, is truly the most awkward dude in the history of TV series and I love it!

Four other TV series which have multiple successful seasons are Shameless (US), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, You’re The Worst en New Girl. Every season these comedies seem to maintain their fan base. If you ask me, Shameless (US) has been peaking for years with its rock-solid cast. The jokes of Andy Samberg in Brooklyn Nine-Nine never bore me. Every episode of You're the Worst has got me amazed because of the weird love life of Jimmy and Gretchen. And to me, New Girl's Nick and Jess are still the funniest couple of Los Angeles.

And then there's Ash vs Evil Dead which I rather don't watch during dinner. Not only because some scenes are so incredibly nasty, but also because I would probably spit my food out when rolling on the floor, laughing. Amazing show.

Last but not least, Transparent. I don't watch the show, but according to the number of nominations and awards this show has won, I think this comedy fits perfectly in this list of nominees.

It was very tough to decide which shows to nominate, but the hardest part is yet to come. Voting! You don't agree with my choices? I can totally understand. As I said before, humour is super subjective, and there are so many comedies nowadays! You can always use a wild card if you really want to vote for a show I didn't nominate. You can cast your vote from 5 January till 4 February. Until then, let me know in the comments what you think is the best comedy of 2016!
