Series of the year 2018 - Best comedy series

This column supports the Series of the Year election 2018 and discusses the category 'Best comedy series'. Between Monday January 7th and Monday February 4th you can vote for your favourite series in this genre and others.

'Everyone thinks this is funny!' is something nobody ever says.

Especially the comedy genre is tied to personal preferences. Thus, it wasn't an easy task to create a list of best comedy series of the year 2018. Together with the other writers of MySeries, various other site users and a with a bit of my own opinion thrown in (Naturally, as I am also the writer of this column) I've managed to compile a list.

For the observant voter: Lucifer, the previous winner, is no longer part of this list. Simply because of the fact that IMDb and other websites no longer classify the show as a comedy. This doesn't mean it isn't hilarious, because it is, but it will no longer be part of this category

So who is going to win? That's entirely up to you! Below you can find them, in alphabetical order. Good luck!

Ash vs Evil Dead

Ash vs Evil Dead is a bit of a stranger. There is no other show of which I've heard this many different opinions. Or it is 100% your thing. Or you're disgusted by it. It appears as if there is no middle ground. Does this show have a chance? Or is it an outsider?

A newcomer in this list! This is the first time Atypical has been nominated. Last year it just about didn't reach the top 10, but this year it has. In theory this show should do quite well. Every family recognizes themselves in this show, right? Because, every family is somewhat atypical , right? ;-)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

This show has been going on since 2013 and this year it is once again part of the top 10. Nearly this show would've been a part of a different list, 'best ended shows', but it was saved by the NBC network. And be honest here, this show should definitely be part of this list.

De Luizenmoeder

We've reached a new milestone in history. For the first time ever, A DUTCH SHOW HAS REACHED THE TOP 10 OF COMEDY SHOWS. 'De Luizenmoeder' took The Netherlands by storm. Miss Ank and the others were praised for their use of non-politically correct humour. I am quite curious about how this show will perform in this election.

Modern Family

Well, what should I say? This show remains a bit of a gem. Season after season the show and cast continue to surprise us. The tenth season is currently on air and is once again old fashionably good. One thing of note: this show has never won the election. Maybe Modern Family will stand a chance this year?

New Girl

Jessica Day has conquered many hearts over the past few years. Her 'authentic' humour made many people happy. Unfortunately this is going to be the last time. Nonetheless, there is still one final chance for New Girl to become the best comedy show of the year. Whether they're going to succeed? Who knows.

Shameless (US)

Why has this show been nominated? Because other writers and users of MySeries recommended it. This is the only show on this list which I've never seen. Sorry, I'll feel ashamed. Or should I say.... shameless? (I'll never be a comedy writer, that much is obvious).

The Big Bang Theory

The veteran of shows: The Big Bang Theory. During all MySeries best comedy elections, this show has always reached the number 1 spot. Until last year, which is when Lucifer came out on top. As this is the most famous show, I am afraid that it will win purely because of that. It wouldn't be completely undeserved, as this show remains solid.

The Good Place

I am not allowed to pick favourites and I am most certainly not allowed to write that down. But this show? I truly think that it is a (unfortunately undiscovered by many) gem among all these comedies. Quick, witty and often very clever. Fortunately, I am not the only person voting. All of you are much better suited to do that!

Young Sheldon

And to finish this list off, another new show. This Big Bang Theory spin-off has garnered a lot of attention during this year. The young actors were brilliantly cast and the script is phenomenal. It may very well be that Young Sheldon will lose to its big brother, but this could be a potential winner in the future.
