The upcoming streaming service, Quibi, which will first release in April 2020, offers a totally different concept. The service will thus be able to distinguish itself from parties such as Netflix and Disney+.
Quibi was founded by former Disney and Pixar boss Jeffrey Katzenberg and has already attracted several big names. Steven Spielberg, Steven Soderbergh, Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi and Antoine Fuqua will make very short films for Quibi. Their projects for the new platform can only be viewed on mobile phones, in episodes of seven to ten minutes long.

The streaming service has full rights for two years. After this, these short parts may be combined into a large whole, for example to make a long feature film. From that moment on, the rights end up in the hands of the creators, who can then redistribute their films and series.

Antoine Fuqua, the director of Training Day, will make a two and a half hour drama series, which will be shown in short pieces at Quibi. Stephan James portrays a veteran of the Iraq war who comes face to face with the police in New Orleans. Fuqua commented on the original concept: “The streaming service finances a film or TV series for you, and after a few years you own the film rights. That is really fantastic. "

Quibi, which is an abbreviation for quick bites, will offer two subscription types at the launch in April 2020. One for around 5 euros per month with advertising, the other for 8 euros per month without advertising. The initiators have 2 billion dollars invested in content and at the launch, Quibi will offer around 7,000 videos. When Quibi will become available in Europe is not yet known.

So I have 0.0% interest in this. Watch a movie or series for 10 minutes every day and then also with advertising for 5 euros or without advertising 8 euros. Of course they come with several series and films, but what then? Are you only watching 10 minutes of 15 different series. And how long do you have to wait for the next 10 minutes? The next day? The next week? No, doesn't seem like anything to me.

I totally agree, Dave. This is more for people who have a goldfish attention span. Well, that is quite normal with today's youth, so that might be the case. But I do wait for all the pieces to be put together into a movie.

I think even a goldfish has a longer attention span, BlackBiker. So they are not waiting for this either, haha. And as for the youth, this way it only gets more difficult for future generations and their attention span. I can already picture it: "So nice watching a series!" Two minutes later: "Well that was exciting again! I'm curious how it will continue."
