Spotlight on: Laura Prepon

Lights off, spotlight on! Time to see in which series this actor portrayed a character.

We mainly know Laura Prepon from her lead roles in two series. She experienced her major breakthrough with That 70's Show. As a starting actress she conquers the role of Donna Pinciotti in Fox's long-running sitcom. That 70's Show takes us, not surprisingly, back to the years of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll. The years of Flower Power where everything is possible and allowed.

At that time, when the relationship between man and woman was slightly different than now, Donna Pinciotti makes the head of her neighbor, Eric Forman (Topher Grace), run wild. With her long red - later blonde - hair and headstrong character, she wins him over. Together they develop a deep relationship. They have to conguer various problems that'll test their relationship. These tests will get more difficult in later seasons.

That 70's Show has long been very successful in dealing with old stereotypes, showing how hard it was for feminist Donna Pinciotti to be taken seriously. After all, women should take care of the family, right? In any case, Donna does not intend to do that alone. Prepon plays her role with conviction, shows that this is not necessarily the case for a long time. But whether they really believe her friends in the '70's ... it's still a sitcom that doesn't change much in the premise. Her character certainly provides a lot of witty comments, especially towards the naive Jackie (Mila Kunis).

After smaller roles, including a guest role in comedy series How I Met Your Mother and the lead role in Are You There, Chelsea ?, she returns in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black in a major role of a real hit series. In the dramedy, she portrays Alex Vause, a convicted international drug dealer who is trapped in the Litchfield women's prison.

For this role, Prepon has exchanged her red and blonde hair for a black haircut while the dull Eric Forman is exchanged for an on and off relationship with main character Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). Yet this role has similarities with her teenage role in That '70 Show. Prepon also plays the role of a strong character in Orange Is the New Black. It suits her well and her character Alex Vause is one of the most popular characters of the series for a reason.

In 2019, after seven seasons, the perils that took place in the women's prison came to an end. For Prepon, that is probably not the end of her acting career, although little is known about future roles she will take on at the moment.
