2019 in series

2019 in series

Another year has passed. A year with great series, but also quite a few disappointing ones. It was also a year of loads of updates and new writers. You probably already get it, we're going to take a look at 2019.
2019, the year in which Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory ended. Where mini series about true stories - When They See Us and Chernobyl to name just two - almost played a major role. In which a record number of series were added to the MySeries database. And a year where the new streaming services Apple TV + and Disney + released. In short, a year filled with series.

Down below you can find some fun statistics we collected.

Writers
I would really like to start by thanking all writers, editors and translators - most of whom do this voluntarily - for their great work in 2019. I hope that in 2020 we will have just as many, if not more, great reviews and columns. A total of 409 reviews have been written and translated. 86 columns have also been written and 2049 news items including translations have been published.

Adding series
Our series database also expanded in 2019. Our readers were able to add series themselves in 2019 and they have done that for a whopping total of 3198 times. Thank you very much for that! The oldest series was added on February 3, by Rowi and that was Laurel & Hardy from 1921. The newest series is The Wheel of Time from 2021 and Roeman added it on August 15. These are the top 5 users who added the most series:

1. jakkepoes - 859 series
2. Misere – 809 series
3. mafdou7a – 169 series
4. Exo_ - 145 series
5. Viooltje – 111 series

users/members
Where would My Series be without its users? We gained a lot of users in 2019. We have more than 209,000 members in total. In 2019, MySeries gained a total of 40,353 new users. And these users have watched over 9 million episodes out of the 11,500 series, that can be found on MySeries. In total, all users graded more than 142,000 series and La Casa de Papel received the most grades. Users could also vote for their favourite characters in series, Maeve Millay received the most votes during 2019.

Most read
We also kept track of which series was visited the most on our website. Vis a Vis leads the way with 140,708 views, followed by The Handmaid's Tale and Outlander. The most followed series was La Casa de Papel with 4,047 followers, followed by Game of Thrones and Grey's Anatomy. La Casa de Papel also received the most votes, 1,571 times users graded this Spanish Netflix series. Game of Thrones from HBO and the Dutch Netflix series Undercover are in second and third place respectively. The best-read review is the second season of The Missing and the best-read news article is "Catherine Bell returns to NCIS: Los Angeles."

Other
In 2019, users were also able to participate in contests, where they could win a DVD or even an annual subscription to Horrify. 2019 was also the year in which Peter Oostrom and Mandy Gelling officially started the MijnSerie Podcast, a Dutch podcast that comes out every month. Every Monday Peter Rotthier wrote an overview of all the Dutch/Flemish series that released that week. Karin Witowski also wrote some beautiful pieces regarding Outlander.

Thank you very much for a great 2019 and the entire MySeries team hopes that 2020 will be just as great. Hopefully we'll be able to provide you with many great reviews, columns and news messages/
