Corona crisis; which series to watch? Wichita van Rijkom's top 5

It has become a well-known image, empty supermarket shelves, empty squares and shopping malls. People work from home or not at all. How can you spend that time? We have made a top 5 displaying series you could watch in these peculiar times.
Nowadays, there are many ways to watch television, such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime or Hulu. But you can also still watch networks. Now that so many people are sitting at home due to the coronavirus, all of these options are used to the max. To provide you with some order in all this chaos, I now present my top-five series that are easy to binge-watch.

5. McLeod's Daughters

McLeod's Daughters revolves around the McLeod family and their employees. They have to run a big farm in Australia. From common issues to big drama, the ladies of Drover's Run experience it all. The men of the nearby Killarney farm also have an impact on Drover's Run. Together, they try to keep their company's running on the tough countryside. Although the story appears to be simplistic, it is very easy to lose yourself in the story. The series has a whopping eight seasons, so you should be able to fill days with this series.

4. The Sinner

What can happen to someone to make sure they're willing to commit murder? Were there underlying circumstances? The Sinner is a series where questions like these are the main theme. Each season knows a beginning and an end, featuring detective Harry Ambrose as the lead investigator. All the cases have one thing in common; they're not that difficult to solve. But appearances deceive. Each case appears to have a complicated history. Piece by piece, everything falls into place, and we as viewers, alongside Harry, figure out what happened.

3. The Flash (2014)

Barry Allen did not have an easy life. When he is struck by lightning during a storm, which is strengthened by remaining particles from an exploded particle accelerator, he develops superpowers. He decides to help people in his city, and he quickly forms a group to help him achieve this. The storm didn't just affect Barry. Other new 'metahumans' don't always have the right motives, and it doesn't take long before Barry's alter ego 'The Flash' ends up fighting them. And then there is still that one case where Barry's mother was murdered, and it was never solved...

2. Stranger Things

The village of Hawkins is shrouded in mystery. As the twelve-year-old Will Byers ends up missing, a strange unknown girl arrives at the town. In their quest to find answers, Will's friends figure out the insane truth about his disappearance. In the end, it appears that they're the only ones who can save him, and the children will have to fight against powers that would be deemed impossible to exist. Stranger Things is currently still going on, and thus the story isn't finished as of yet.

1. Once Upon a Time

When young Henry ends up with a fairy tale book, he is confronted with the unique history of his town, Storybrooke. He, his biological mother, adoptive mother, neighbour, doctor, and even his teacher have all come from a fairytale world. Nobody appears to be willing to believe him. The townspeople think that he has mental problems, which ensures that he undertakes extreme actions. He tracks down his biological mother and convinces her to come to Storybrooke. This is the beginning of an adventure that'll change the lives of everyone in the village. I've spent years enjoying the fairytale world of Once Upon a Time. All the fairytales in the world receive some screen time, and with seven seasons, there is plenty of material to go through.

For those of you who enjoy this kind of material, and want more, I've got more series to recommend. If you like superheroes, you should watch the entire 'Arrowverse'. It all started with Arrow but since that moment DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning and Batwoman have become part of the 'Arrow universe'. Those of you who enjoy The Sinner will probably also like Harlan Coben, Safe, The Stranger (2020) or You. If you enjoy McLeod's Daughters, you'll definitely enjoy Gilmore Girls. And if you enjoyed Stranger Things, then I recommend you try Locke & Key. To wrap things up, I still want to mention When They See Us. This four-part miniseries impressed me so much it is worth an honourable mention. Enjoy watching! Hopefully, it'll provide you with the necessary distractions during these difficult times. Soon there will be more top-five lists for you to enjoy!
