The deal is co-exclusive with Max from Warner Bros. Discovery. True Blood, which streams on rival service Hulu, will also be added to Netflix outside the US.
Deadline revealed in June that Insecure would star in a package of HBO titles to air on Netflix, the first time Netflix will broadcast HBO content in the US. At the time, we reported that some HBO veterans opposed the plan, but the company's financial considerations won out.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, indicated early in his tenure that he is willing to give up exclusivity and license content to increase profits. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. distributed Discovery titles like Westworld to free streaming platforms like Roku and Tubi.
Insecure itself aired this year on the Warner Bros.-owned cable network OWN. Discovery, a rare recent move for an HBO series to air on basic cable.
All five seasons of Insecure were added the day before yesterday. The series finale aired in December 2021.
From creators Rae and Larry Wilmore, Insecure explores the experience of black women through best friends Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji), as they deal with their own flaws as they try to navigate different worlds and deal with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences. Over the course of the first season, Issa tries to figure out what she wants from life and how to take matters into her own hands as she navigates this journey.
The series also stars Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell and Amanda Seales.
During Insecure's five seasons, the series earned a total of 14 Emmy nominations, including a win for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series in 2020.
