Lead role for Keira Knightley in series adaptation The Essex Serpent at Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has ordered The Essex Serpent from See-Saw Films. The series is based on the book with the same name by Sarah Perry. Keira Knightley (Neverland) will portray the lead character in The Essex Serpent, which revolves around widow Cora (Knightley). After she escapes her abusive marriage, Cora moves to a small town in Essex. She is intrigued by a local superstition about a mythical creature that has returned to the area.

Clio Barnard will direct the new drama series and Anna Symon (Deep Water) will write it. Knightley, Barnard and Symon will serve alongside Jamie Laurenson (State of the Union), Hakan Kousetta (Foyle's War), Patrick Walters (Top of the Lake), Iain Canning (Top of the Lake) and Emile Sherman (Top of the Lake) as executive producer. It is not yet known when the series is set to release at Apple TV+.
