ABC orders Rebel by Krista Vernoff

ABC has ordered ten episodes from Rebel, which comes from Krista Vernoff (Grey's Anatomy). The series is based on the life of activist Erin Brockovich. Rebel is one of the five pilots ABC chose back in June to start production. The alphabet network has now ordered ten episodes of the drama series. It is the third pilot of 2020 which has received a direct to television order by ABC. The other two series are The Big Sky from David E. Kelley and Call Your Mother from Kari Lizer. Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) will portray the lead character in Rebel, which is based on the life of activist Erin Brockovich. The series will premiere in 2021.

The first episode will be written by Krista Vernoff (Grey's Anatomy) and will be directed by Tara Nicole Weyr (Desperate Housewives). The series revolves around the unqualified blue-collar lawyer Annie "Rebel" Bello (Sagal). She is a funny, confusing, brilliant and brave woman, who tries to do everything in order to win all the cases she takes on.
