Series based on novel The Comedown in the works at Starz

Starz is developing The Comedown, a comedy drama series based on Rafael Frumkin's book of the same name.
The project comes from Regina King's Royal Ties Productions and Freddie Highmore's Alfresco Pictures as well as TriStar Television, a division of Sony Pictures TV where actor Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) has an overall deal.

A Starz representative declined to comment.

Written by Gretchen Enders (Marvel's WandaVision), The Comedown is a darkly comedic multigenerational drama that explores the boundaries of race, class, religion and time through the story of two very different Cleveland families (one black family and one white family), whose lives become intertwined on a fateful night when a drug deal goes dramatically wrong and a mysterious yellow briefcase disappears.

Highmore (pictured) and Claire Londy co-produce with Enders and Regina King and Reina King of Royal Ties through Alfresco Pictures.

Enders recently served as co-executive producer for Netflix/Shondaland's new series Sunshine Scouts, which opened a writer's room. Prior to that, she was a supervising producer on Marvel's WandaVision for Disney+ and Marvel, and also worked on Queen America for Facebook Watch and Grace and Frankie for Netflix.

The Comedown, published under the name Rebekah Frumkin, was Rafael Frumkin's first book. Its successor, Confidence, was pre-ordered by Simon & Schuster and will be released in March 2023.

Highmore is the lead actor and executive producer of ABC's hit medical drama The Good Doctor, now in its sixth season.
