Drama series The Mysterious Mortons in development at CBS

CBS Studios is developing The Mysterious Mortons, a detective series for CBS from Amy Rardin (Charmed (2018)), George Northy (Charmed (2018)) and Laurie Zaks (Castle).
The series follows a homicide detective who enlists his wayward family of mystery writers to help him solve cases that baffle the authorities.

Rardin and Northy will serve as writers and executive producers; Zaks produces Rosewood TV under its banner.

Rardin is currently lead writer and co-executive producer on Marvel/Disney+'s Echo, and she was co-creator and executive producer on the reboot of Charmed for The CW. She also served as an executive producer and writer for four seasons of Jane the Virgin for The CW and began her career with ABC Family's Greek.

Northy (pictured) sold Ozma to Netflix, a series set in the Wizard of Oz universe, with 21 Laps and Untitled Entertainment as producers. His feature film G.B.F. (Gay Best Friend) premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival and was distributed by Vertical Films to widespread critical acclaim. George sold Wellsville to NBC and Infamous to The CW. Prior to that, Northy co-produced Charmed (2018) with Amy Rardin for the CW and CBS Studios. He also sold a series adaptation of Jawbreaker, starring Darren Stein and Sony TV to E!.

Zaks, who was behind the hit ABC drama series Castle, launched her production company Rosewood Television in 2021. At that time, after seven years as the head of television at Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman's Mandeville Films, she had a deal with ABC Signature. She recently signed a deal with ITV Studios America, the American arm of the British broadcaster and production group, where she has a development deal. She previously developed series including ABC's The Fix, The Family and Wicked City and Netflix's Hit and Run.
