Jon Hamm (Mad Men) will play a leading role in Shawn Ryan's American Hostage (S.W.A.T. (2017))

Mad Men star Jon Hamm and producer Shawn Ryan (S.W.A.T. (2017)) are collaborating on a television film adaptation of the podcast American Hostage, with Hamm reprising his role from the audio series.
American Hostage is described as a "psychological thriller that tells the gripping story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who finds himself in the middle of a life-threatening crisis when hostage taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program."

Hamm (pictured) will reprise his podcast role as Heckman.

The script was completed before the writers' strike by Mad Dogs scribes Ryan and Eileen Myers. Sony, where Ryan has an umbrella deal, will now sell the project to streaming services. Ryan sees the series as an anthology, with each season focusing on a different hostage case.

Hamm will also serve as an executive producer on the series, along with Ryan, Myers, Connie Tavel and Ryan's MiddKid partner Marney Hochman.

Podcast executive producers Shawn Christensen, who also directed, and Criminal Content's Gabriel Mason will also executive produce the series adaptation.
