Michelle Williams (Fosse/Verdon) will lead cast of FX series Dying For Sex

Michelle Williams will star in and produce Dying For Sex, a limited series for FX. Dying For Sex comes from writers Liz Meriwether (The Dropout) and Kim Rosenstock (Only Murders in the Building), director Leslye Headland (The Acolyte) and 20th Television, where Meriwether, Rosenstock and Headland are under an umbrella deal.



Based on the hit Wondery podcast, Dying For Sex is the story of a woman (Williams, pictured) diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer who leaves her husband after fifteen years of marriage and begins to explore her sexuality. She gets the courage and support to embark on this adventure from her best friend, who stays by her side until the end.

Meriwether and Rosenstock serve as showrunners and produce alongside Headland, Meriwether's longtime collaborator Katherine Pope, Nikki Boyer, host and co-creator of the Dying For Sex podcast, and Wondery Inc.

The project had been in the works for years. Things picked up steam in the spring, but deal-making was interrupted during the strikes.

This marks Williams' return to FX, where she starred as Gwen Verdon in the 2019 limited series Fosse/Verdon, which earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Williams recently received her fifth Oscar nomination for her role as Mitzi Fabelman in Steven Spieberg's The Fabelmans, for which she also won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama.

Meriwether created/executive produced the acclaimed Hulu limited series The Dropout and the long-running Fox comedy New Girl. She was also co-creator/executive producer of the comedies Single Parents and Bless This Mess.

Headland was showrunner on the Netflix series Russian Doll and head writer and executive producer on Disney+/Lucasfilm's The Acolyte. She also recently produced and directed Freeform's Single Drunk Female.
