Fox orders drama series Murder in a Small Town with Kristen Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland

Fox has picked up the psychological crime drama Murder in a Small Town, starring Kristin Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland, for the 2024-25 season.

Murder in a Small Town follows Karl Alberg (Sutherland), who moves to a quiet coastal town to soothe his psyche battered by big-city police work. But this gentle paradise holds more than its share of secrets and Karl will have to call upon all the skills that made him a world-class detective to solve the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shores . Kreuk plays Cassandra, a local librarian who becomes Alberg's muse, opponent and romantic interest.

Murder in a Small Town is based on the Edgar Award-winning, nine-book Karl Alberg series by the late Canadian author L.R. Wright.

Fox has acquired US rights to the series, which is written by head writer Ian Weir (Arctic Air), director Milan Cheylov (The Cleaning Lady (US)) and Canada's Sepia Films in association with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, the company from former USA Network president Jeff Wachtel.

This is Fox's first greenlight for a scripted series produced with an international studio.

“Murder In a Small Town illustrates our ongoing strategy to identify and commission impactful global content in a smart and effective manner with proven creative partners,” said Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment’s President, Scripted Programming.

Vancouver-born Sutherland, son of Donald Sutherland and half-brother of Kiefer Sutherland, has starred in Prime Video's Three Pines starring Alfred Molina and season two of Apple TV+'s Canadian series Plan B. He was recently seen in the television film Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story.

A native of Vancouver, Kreuk is known for her starring roles in The CW's Smallville, CBC's Edgemont, The CW's Beauty and the Beast and CBS/the CW's Burden of Truth, which she also produced. Kreuk recently appeared in season one of Amazon's series Reacher.

Yes, how come I never made that link between Donald Sutherland and Kiefer Sutherland :P I honestly didn't know they were related! I can't put my finger on it, but although I think Donald Sutherland is a good actor, I don't have that with Kiefer Sutherland at all. I also have that with Pedro Pascal. Anyway, this isn't about Kiefer but about his brother... And Kristen Kreuk... I want to watch the series for her alone. That is one of the actresses who can do little wrong in my eyes.

Haha, I wonder that too. Kiefer is a spitting image, but a bit younger, of his father. Very special that we never noticed this :-) But never too old to learn, right? :-D I've never heard of half-brother Rossif and when I look at his filmography on Wiki I haven't seen anything he's in, except in one episode of The Expanse, in which I didn't notice him.
