Sanaa Lathan (Succession) cast in series about infamous clairvoyant Miss Cleo

Sanaa Lathan, who recently received an Emmy nomination for her role in Succession, will star as the infamous psychic Miss Cleo in a new drama series.
Miss Cleo's real name was Youree Dell Harris, an actress best known for portraying the spokeswoman for a psychic pay-per-call minute service called Psychic Readers Networks in a series of commercials between 1997 and 2003. Her catchphrase was "Call me now!".

Legendary Entertainment is developing the project with Lathan (pictured) serving as executive producer. Former Sony Pictures Television Head of Drama Sharon Hall, who produced The Expanse, is also an executive producer on the project through her Mom de Guerre Productions. Lathan will also star as Miss Cleo in the series, which is being offered to streamers and networks.

In 2002, the Federal Trade Commission charged the owners of the company Psychic Readers Networks with deceptive advertising, billing and collection practices. Harris was not charged, but the people behind the company agreed to a settlement by forgiving $500 million in victims' debts and paying a $5 million fine.

Harris was also the voice of a character in the computer game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. She passed away in 2016.

HBO Max released a documentary about her life, Call Me Miss Cleo, in 2022.

The Miss Cleo series is described as a dark comedy-drama inspired by the true story of the star of the psychic pay-per-call service. It examines how her infamous rise led to a controversial government lawsuit worth more than $500 million.

Lathan starred in the 1998 film Blade, followed by roles in The Best Man, Love & Basketball, Disappearing Acts and Brown Sugar. She played Alexa Woods in Alien vs. Predator and was also seen in The Best Man Holiday.

She was recently nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Lisa Arthur in Succession.

Her other television roles include Showtime's The Affair, Netflix's Hit and Run, Starz's Boss and FX's Nip/Tuck.
