Originally published in 1990, the book tells the true story of pioneering Cuban artist Ana Mendieta, her formidable impact on the New York art scene, and the controversial trial of her sculptor husband Carl Andre before her sudden and tragic death.

Mendieta is considered one of the most influential post-World War II Cuban-American artists and is praised for her groundbreaking work in performance art, sculpture and land art. She is known for her work exploring themes of identity, feminism and the relationship between the human body and the earth.
Mendieta died in 1985 when she fell from Andre's 34th-floor apartment. She was 36.
Ferrera has won Emmys, Golden Globes and SAG Awards and is currently at a career high, following an Oscar nomination for her role as Gloria in Warner Bros' cultural phenomenon Barbie. She became known for her starring role as Betty Suerez in the ABC drama Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010. Ferrera also had a regular role in the NBC comedy series Superstore.
Charise Castro Smith will write and executive produce the series. Plan B is also on board for executive production.
Smith is best known for co-writing and co-directing Disney's Oscar-winning animated film Encanto. She has also been part of the writing and production teams on series such as Sweetbitter, The Haunting of Hill House and The Exorcist, and previously wrote Devious Maids.
Plan B, led by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, is currently in theaters with the Paramount musical drama Bob Marley: One Love. The company also produces the Netflix science fiction series 3 Body Problem by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo, which will appear on the platform on Thursday, March 21.
