
The anime adaptation is directed by Fuga Yamashiro, who was assistant director on Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! and The Tatami Time Machine Blues. The script was written by Hiroshi Seko, who wrote the final season of Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. The series is produced by Science SARU, the animation studio behind Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, Devilman Crybaby, Star Wars: Visions (episodes T0-B1 and Akakiri) and the recent hit Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Crunchyroll's official story synopsis for Dan Da Dan reads: "This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spiritual mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo saves Okarun from bullying, they begin to talk to each other, but an argument arises between them because Momo believes in ghosts but denies the existence of aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies the existence of ghosts.
To prove to each other that what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been seen and Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. To their surprise, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that defies comprehension. In the midst of these dire situations, Momo awakens from her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love also begins!
The series' character design was done by Naoyuki Onda, creature design by Yoshimichi Kameda, and music by Kensuke Ushio.
The Japanese voice cast includes Shion Wakayama as Momo, Natsuki Hanae as Okarun, Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo Granny and Kazuya Nakai as the Serpoians.
The Dan Da Dan manga series currently has more than 370 million views on Shueisha's Shonen Jump Plus platform and more than 3.2 million print volumes in circulation.
