Sequel to Kastanjemanden (The Chestnut Man) and more Nordic TV news from Netflix

A new day, a new Netflix content slate in Europe.
After content showcases in Germany and London last week, the streamer has unveiled its slate in Scandinavia. Key series announcements include a Norwegian series based on author Joe Nesbø's police detective Harry Hole and Netflix's first Scandinavian period drama.

15006 Netflix Nordiv TV-series

On the series front, Harry Hole (working title) comes from creator Oystein Karlson, and is based on the novel The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbø (pictured right), about the titular detective. Working Title is producing for a 2026 debut with Nesbø writing the script.

The synopsis reads: "A heat wave hits a holiday-quiet Oslo. In an apartment near the cemetery, small black clumps begin to drip through the floor. At the same time, police detective Harry Hole lies on the floor in his small apartment, drunk, fired and abandoned by his girlfriend. In the hunt for his corrupt colleague Tom Waaler, Harry has lost his closest colleague and only he knows that Tom Waaler is behind the murder. At the same time, another woman is found murdered with a severed index finger. Harry Hole gets his last mission. Together with the only other first officer who is not on vacation: Tom Waaler."

The New Force (pictured above left) is Netflix's first Scandinavian period drama and is set in 1958. The series follows the first female police officers to graduate in Sweden. Despised by the public, belittled by the media and scorned by their colleagues, the small group of pioneering officers are placed in Sweden's most crime-ridden district, in Stockholm, where they realize that their biggest problem is not the criminals, but the resistance of colleagues and their own families.

Josefin Asplund, Agnes Rase and Malin Persson star in the series, which is written by lead writer Patrik Ehrnst along with Elin Randin and Antonia Pyk. The directors are Rojda Sekersöz and Julia Lindström and Cecilia Becker Forsberg is the producer. Art & Bob produces with Jan Blomgren as executive producer. A launch date of 2026 is targeted.

Another new series is Diary of a Ditched Girl (working title), a Swedish drama about a 31-year-old woman looking for love from Banijay-owned Jarowskij. The series is based on the novel Halva Malmö Består av Killar Som Dumpat Mig by Amanda Romare. Written by Tove Eriksen Hillblom and Moa Herngren and starring Carla Sehn, it will be launched next year.

There will also be a standalone sequel to the Danish series Kastanjemanden/The Chestnut Man, based on a novel by Søren Sveistrup, who is also known for Forbrydelsen/The Killing. The series is scheduled to air in 2026. Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (pictured above, bottom left) return as detectives Mark Hess and Naia Thulin in a drama based on the crimes of a violent killer who stalks victims before killing them. Sam Productions is affiliated; and Dorte Warnøe Høgh and Emilie Lebech Kaae.

There will also be a second season of Barracuda Queens, which follows a group of girls involved in an escalating series of heists and this time it's set in the art world.

Alva Bratt, Tea Stjärne, Sarah Gustafsson, Tindra Monsen, Sandra Zubovic, Izabella Scorupco, Cecilia Frode, Filip Berg and Joel Spira star.

Camilla Ahlgren and Sofie & Tove Forsman are the writers and Asp & Varhos will return as producers of the series, which will air in 2025.

Apple Tree Productions' Skruk/Baby Fever season two, B-Reel Films' Swedish crime series The Helicopter Heist and Rubicon's salmon industry family drama Billionaire Island all launched in the fall, while Swedish crime drama Deliver Me debuts on Wednesday, April 24. Norway's Midsummer Night kicks off on Thursday, April 11, while Pernille launches season four in the summer. The popular Ronja Rövardotter/Ronja the Robber's Daughter debuts on Thursday, March 28.

On the unscripted front is a second season of Love is Blind Sweden, in which singles make connections and plan weddings with suitors they have never met in person. Mastiff is the producer, Anna Nygren and Elias Malmberg are producing. Caroline Claesson, Andreas Johansson and Matilda Snöwall are the executive producers.

Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, Netflix’s Vice President of Content, Nordics took to the stage at the content showcase and said: “The creative industry in the Nordic region is outstanding, with some of the most talented people in the world. We are both thrilled and proud of the fantastic shows we announced today at Next on Netflix.
