The Thing About Pam has a new similar series in development

A new true-crime franchise, The Thing About..., aims to join American Crime Story, Monster and Dr. Death. Peacock is developing The Thing About Tommy from writer Bruce Marshall Romans (photo, inset) and the companies behind NBC's 2022 limited series The Thing About Pam, NBC News Studios and Blumhouse, sources say. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.



The Thing About Tommy is inspired by the true story of Thomas Randolph, nicknamed Black Widower, who was married six times and whose four wives ended up dead.

Like The Thing About Pam, which detailed Pam Hupp's involvement in the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria, The Thing About Tommy emerges from Dateline's reporting on the case. NBC's news magazine profiled Randolph in the multi-part series The Widower.

After premiering on NBC, The Thing About Pam, starring Renée Zellweger as Hupp, can be seen on Peacock, where Dr. Death and the Dateline library can be seen.

In addition to writing the script for the pilot, Romans is executive producing The Thing About Tommy starring Jason Blum, Chris Dickie and Jeremy Gold for Blumhouse and Liz Cole of NBC News Studios.

Romans is the writer-producer of Falling Skies, Hell On Wheels, The Punisher, Deputy and Shantaram, among others.
