AMC has series based on upcoming horror novel Gothictown in development

AMC is in the early stages of development on Gothictown, a series adaptation of Emily Carpenter's upcoming horror novel.
British-Nigerian writer Abby Ajayi (pictured) will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer. The project comes to AMC via the network's first-look deal with Stephen Love's Made With Love Media, which acquired the rights to the book in a competitive situation and is attached to produce.

Gothictown is a creepy family horror story published on March 25, 2025. It follows Billie Hope, a New York restaurateur who moves with her family to the quaint town of Juliana, Georgia, drawn by an irresistible offer: a Victorian house for just $100 and a grant to open a new restaurant. Designed to revitalize the town post-pandemic, the 'Juliana Initiative' seems like the perfect opportunity for a fresh start and a new business venture.

But once Billie and her family settle here, a disturbing undercurrent begins to creep into Juliana's life beneath Juliana's southern charm. She tries to dismiss her suspicions as mere doubts, but the town's eerie atmosphere and hidden darkness are impossible to ignore. Billie soon realizes that Juliana is holding her family captive in more ways than one and that escape may not be as easy as she thought.

Ajayi is a sought-after writer-producer and earned Emmy and PGA Award nominations for her work on Netflix series Inventing Anna. Other television projects include How to Get Away with Murder for Shondaland/ABC, The First Lady for Showtime and Hulu's series adaptation of Four Weddings and a Funeral.
