Bestselling drama series Lucky starring Anya Taylor-Joy lands on Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has landed a series adaptation of Marissa Stapley's bestseller Lucky, starring Anya Taylor-Joy.
The limited series, which Taylor-Joy will also executive produce, comes from Apple Studios and Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine (the novel was a 2021 Reese's Book Club selection). Jonathan Tropper (See and the upcoming Your Friends and Neighbors) is the series creator and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Cassie Pappas (Silo, Griselda).

Lucky will be Taylor-Joy's (pictured) second project with Apple TV+; she also stars in the feature film The Gorge, which will be released next year. Witherspoon also has a relationship with Apple TV+ through The Morning Show, on which she stars and is an executive producer.

“Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections — to the stories, to the storytellers, and to the community we are building,” Witherspoon said in a statement. “It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel to audiences around the world.”

Lucky has Taylor-Joy play a young woman who grew up in a life of crime, but has left that world behind. She must embrace her dark, criminal side one more time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.

“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life,” said Taylor-Joy.

Tropper, who has an overall deal with Apple TV+, will produce alongside Pappas, Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine and Taylor-Joy through her company LadyKiller through his Tropper Ink banner.

Taylor-Joy won SAG, Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards and was nominated for an Emmy for Netflix's The Queen's Gambit. She also appeared in BBC's Peaky Blinders and was heard in Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
