NBC developing comedy series Taste starring Modern Family's Julie Bowen

Emmy Award winner Julie Bowen (Modern Family) is set to star in NBC's new comedy series Taste.
Taste, currently in development, comes from writers and producers Justin Shanes (St. Denis Medical) and Nedaa Sweiss (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon).

Taste follows the employees of a legendary food magazine in the Bay Area. When the magazine is acquired by a Silicon Valley tech mogul, the traditionalist editor (Bowen, pictured) is suddenly forced to work with a young, hip TikTok chef.

Bowen also produces through her Bowen and Sons Production, along with the company’s president, Rachael Field, and Top Chef judge and executive producer Gail Simmons, who was director of special projects at Food & Wine for 15 years.

Bowen won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Claire Dunphy on the hit ABC comedy series Modern Family, which ended its 11-year run in 2020. She currently stars in the comedy horror-thriller series Hysteria! on Peacock. Other television credits include ABC’s Boston Legal and NBC’s Ed. On screen, Bowen played Virginia Venit in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, a role she will reprise in the 2025 sequel.

Shanes is a co-executive producer for NBC and Universal Television’s St. Denis Medical. He previously served as a writer for NBC and Universal Television’s Superstore for five seasons, as well as for The Late Late Show with James Corden and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Sweiss was the showrunner of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the show’s head writer. Before that, Sweiss wrote for The Late Late Show with James Corden.
